Performance Rims That Look Great On Any Sports Car
Instead of trying to find the perfect tires for every car, which could take weeks or months of our lives, we decided to try a different angle in this article.
So instead of going through each manufacturer’s accessory and optional equipment offerings, we decided it would be better to pick the best wheels featured in press photos from production models that has been launched over the past few years.
Concept cars were not chosen for this story, because we wanted to show the wheels that were already in the showrooms. We went through many cars to select the best tires that can be seen in the media released by the car manufacturers. This made the job even more difficult as not all wheel designs were great in the press photos.
However, we felt that the car manufacturers had an opportunity to show the best wheels and colors of the car when they were sent to get press photos. Why spend time trying to find the best wheels from any manufacturer if the manufacturer does not take enough care of the car during the official photo shoot that is so important to attract people to the showrooms?

We’re sure you can show us better press shots of great OEM wheels, but this list is based on the editors’ personal taste in alloys. Hit the comments section to post a link or name of a type of beach you think should be on the list and we missed it. We assure you, it was by accident.
So, let’s take the case of no list, placing these rims in random order because we believe that each of them will perfectly match the car that wears it.
McLaren’s 570S is unveiled with a beautiful set of star-shaped rims. Each of the five arms of the star is separated and they are also twisted in two directions. The lips of the frame gently embrace the “star”, while the center is delicate and helps to expose the large brake discs as much as possible.
McLaren has plenty of rim options to choose from, but we chose this one specifically because it was in the press photos for the 570S and we remembered them after seeing the car online when it was revealed.

Our second presentation is a set of rims worn by the Mercedes-AMG GT-C Roadster. As you may have noticed, we have another type of “star” wheel that has five spokes with space between each arm. Unlike the ones on the McLaren, the arms of these rims are almost straight, but with a slight curve.
Another notable difference is their glossy black “diamond cut” combination finish. The choice makes these wheels stand out even more than just monochrome, not as bright as fully polished wheels. Like the McLaren 570S, the wheels show as much as possible of the brake discs.
These might be the smallest coasters on our list, but we don’t divide cars by size. Mazda’s multi-stripe design for the MX-5 fits the Japanese roadster like a glove, giving it a timeless look.
We love that the automaker chose to paint these faucets in a glossy black shade instead of the usual silver. Painting the faucets black can be a risky decision, especially for those smaller than the 18 or 19-inch units found on larger cars.
Best Color Rims For A White Car
Black paint makes things look smaller than they really are, and doing this with a set of wheels can ruin the look of your driveway. In the MX-5, they just work.
Another bold use of black can be found on the DS3 R Cabriolet, which featured a smart frame design on display in the media gallery. We like the center cap of these rims as it is painted bright red and also sports the DS logo. There’s nothing special about having the brand’s logo on a set of rims, but displaying it in bold red has some neat visual tricks.
In the case of the DS3 R Cabriolet, the black wheels and black wheel arches go overboard when it comes to looks. If the rims were an inch smaller in diameter, things would look terrible.
The amount of clearance between the wheel and the wheel arches is also on the fine line between too much and just right, but the car should still have plenty of suspension travel, so that’s a green light in our book.

Maserati has gone for a seven-bar design which looks amazing. If you look closely at where each handle meets the edge of the bib, you’ll see an “M,” which is the kind of touch you’d expect from an Italian brand.
We also see the car equivalent of the hatch in the form of large disc brakes and red calipers. It looks good on any car, and this look at the Ghibli is as good as you’d expect. The double-layered lips of these rims are also attractive.
Another great wheel design from Italy is on the rim of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. You know these valves by now, because every Giulia Quadrifolio is “worn” in the media. These wheels would fit old Alfa Romeo models.
