Car Body Kits – For many, the greatest supercar of all time will be the McLaren F1. The British-built machine was introduced in 1992, and despite remaining in production for a few years, during which 106 were built, it changed the automotive scene forever.
Despite McLaren’s best efforts and the release of many other incredible machines over the years, McLaren has never been able to do anything quite as extraordinary as the F1. Given the enthusiasm with which the car’s fans preserve its heritage, it never will.

Because of the car’s iconic status, few have been able to create successful tunes or other projects based on it, virtual or otherwise. However, there are official efforts to bring back the car’s appeal.
McLaren itself released the Speedylat in late 2018, the F1 Tribute, which will be built in the same numbers as the F1, 106. Gordon Murray himself is trying to remake his crazy T.50 project.
However, this does not exist in F1 in the real world. It’s the brainchild of an artist named Soki Nango, who found the courage to work on the car and brought us other crazy bodykits for the F40 and McLaren 720S.
As with any such creation, whether the would-be designer made the original F1 better or worse is a matter of interpretation, and it depends on how you look at the F1. Here it is in the gallery above for all to judge and/or admire.

The folks at 1016 Industries want to develop 3D printed auto body components in sufficient quantities to work for scaled manufacturing processes. To test things out, they created this wild body kit for the McLaren 720S. This style certainly won’t be to everyone’s personal taste, but the technology behind it is interesting.

The new front grille has a large front splitter and a narrow entry in the middle. The holes in the corners are much larger than the standard 720S. While it’s closed here, it looks like the center should be open. Both sides have tall duck-like wings. Gone are the entire headlights from this car, but the openings for them look larger than stock.
The rear fenders get new intakes, including an opening at the rear of the side skirts. The fixed wing is on the rear deck.
The exposed wiring for the mirrors, the lack of paint, and the large gaps in the panels show that this body kit is more a proof of concept for 3D printing components than it is ready for production. The company’s testing to date has found that the material can take the punishment of road use without breaking down.
“Incorporating 3D printing into our manufacturing processes has been a steep learning curve,” said Peter Northrop, CEO of 1016 Industries. “However, we were encouraged by how the 720S prototype performed. Although the material has not yet been proven to be suitable for a long-term prototype, our tests have shown that the car can use 3D printing technologies and can be driven. To what extent, that is what 1016 Industries is now trying to find out.

1016 Industries believes it will have a 3D printed complete body kit ready to debut in early 2021. It should be fascinating to see the finished product. Based in Miami, Florida, the company specializes in carbon fiber body parts for exotic cars, offering everything from individual parts to body kits. It is now looking to incorporate 3D printing into its kit manufacturing and is testing a prototype kit developed for the McLaren 720S.
1016 Industries describes the kit as a full carbon body replacement. The kit also adds 110mm to the width of the 720S, the company said.

Performance wheel manufacturer HRE showed a 3D printed wheel and startup Czinger showed an entire car where most of the parts were made using 3D printing.
3D printing technology has proven to be an advantage for large car manufacturers whenever they need to produce complex parts in small volumes, such as when building a prototype vehicle or adding special parts to a vehicle line. This technology has also proven itself in the production of parts for the restoration of classic cars.
